Activities and beaches
Denia is an excellent base to explore the Costa Blanca North but Denia itself also has a lot to offer:
Denia
- Visit Denia's historic castle for not only an insight into the state's rich history but also for fantastic views of the city and its surroundings.
- The narrow streets of Denia's old town are perfect for strolling past picturesque houses, squares and local shops and visiting one of the many cosy terraces.
- The port is the beating heart of the town and offers many opportunities for boat trips, water sports and even day excursions to nearby caves or a cruise to Javea.
Beaches
- After a 500 meters walk, you will reach Playa de Marineta Casiana. The beach is located at the beginning of the Las Rotas promenade, ideal for a nice walk.
- Denia boasts kilometres of beaches, from sandy ones such as Playa de las Marinas
- Around Denia you will also find the more hidden coves along the rocky coast, like the Punta Negra or the Cala Denia. Ideal for swimming and snorkelling.
Villages and towns
- Villages nearby you should definitely visit are Javea (Xabea) for the Ibiza atmosphere, Altea, Moraira and Calpe for a more luxurious experience or head inland for a truly authentic experience.
- Cities like Alicante and Valencia are easy to reach via the AP-7 motorway.
- If you want to leave the car behind, a 15-minute walk away is the tram stop that takes you to Benidorm via Calpe and Altea. In Benidorm, you can change to the tram to Alicante.
Vintners & bodegas
- In the Jalón (Xaló) valley (near Denia) between the Sierra Bernia and El Montgó mountain ranges are some 20 wineries. There is a wine museum in Jalón but it is also possible to visit several bodegas. A must is to drive this wine route which takes you along the coastal wineries.
- In Jesús Pobre, a village just outside Denia, you will find winery Les Freses (yep, as in ‘strawberries’). Les Freses offers a tour of their vineyard and cellars that of course ends with a tasting of their wines, but that's not all! This winery in Marina Alta also offers a visit to l'Alt de Benimaquia, an ancient archaeological site, led by an archaeologist. This visit also includes a tasting of Freses wines. Both visits cost 15 euros per person.
- In the Xaló region is the Bodegas Xaló winery. The most complete option to learn about their varieties of moscatel and giró is their tour for a minimum of 4 people. For 12 euros, you can enjoy a wine tasting with meats here that is memorable :-)
- In Xaló itself, you will find another big name in the Spanish wine world: Bodegas Riko. They offer an excursion which starts in one of the vineyards, then on to the winery and the tour ends with a tasting of Bodegas Riko's most typical wines, combined with charcuterie and local products.
Children
- A 45-minute drive away is Terra Mítica, a large amusement park suitable for the whole family. The park is divided into different themed areas and it has numerous attractions for children of different ages.
- On the other side of the port, you'll find an aqua park in the sea. Fun for anyone feeling young.
- Aitana Safari park - with your own car or with the jeeps you get close to the animals. Just the car ride to this is wonderful :-) (Penàquila, 45km).

Hiking & Mountain biking
- Between Denia and Jávea lies the 752-metre-high Montgó mountain in a natural park. It is a popular mountain for climbing as well as mountain biking. Routes range from easy to very tough (but the reward is always fantastic!!) - check Denia's website for more information.
- If you want guided or more organised hiking or cycling tours, stop by the Montgó Natural Park visitor centre, which is within walking distance of our flat (in the gardens of the Bosc de Diana, Cami de Sant Joan 1).
- For the really tough, there is a difficult/rocky 8.7km trail (lots of scrambling and quite steep) - the starting point is at Campo de Tiro Les Planes (free parking).
Golf
- The entire Costa Blanca from north to south is known for its countless golf courses. You can visit a different one every day if you want! The nearest golf courses from our flat are:
- Club de Golf Javea- in Javea (on the other side of, and therefore overlooking, the Montgó mountain) (18 km)
- Ifach Golf Course in Benidorm (with fantastic views over the coast) (31 km)
- Oliva Nova Beach & Golf Resort - close to the beach and part of a beautiful resort (21km)For the real daredevils, there is a difficult/rocky trail of 8.7 km (lots of scrambling and quite steep) - the starting point is at Campo de Tiro Les Planes (free parking).
