Our favourite restaurants, tapas bars and wine bars in Dénia
Discover our favourite restaurants, tapas bars and wine bars in Dénia, from paella and fresh fish to Els Magazinos, wine bars and dining by the harbour.
Dénia is a paradise for foodies. Or rather: for anyone who loves good food. The town is famous for its gamba roja de Dénia, the local red prawn served as a delicacy in many seafood restaurants. And of course, paella is a must during a stay on the Costa Blanca.
From Nido Cálido Denia, you’re wonderfully close to the harbour, the pier, the town centre and all sorts of restaurants, tapas bars and wine spots. Whether you fancy fresh fish, paella, tapas, sushi, Italian, Indian/Nepalese or a good glass of wine: there’s something for everyone in Dénia.
Below, we share our favourite spots in Dénia. Not as a comprehensive restaurant guide, but simply: the places that make us happy.
Within walking distance of Nido Cálido
One of the great things about Nido Cálido is that you don’t have to go far for good food. The pier is about 500 metres from the apartment and, in our opinion, is definitely worth a visit. You’ll find lots of different, often rather trendy restaurants here, with something for everyone and delicious food by the water.
We love to eat the truly delicious fish platter at The Food and Lounge Bar. Fuego is also a favourite, especially for fish and meat fresh from the grill. And perhaps not the most original choice, but certainly one offering excellent value for money: Mala Vita. Ideal if you’re with a group where everyone wants to eat something slightly different.
Republic Dénia is also highly recommended, particularly for its fantastic view over the harbour. A lovely spot for a relaxed lunch or dinner overlooking the water.
Tapas & small dishes
The town is home to plenty of cosy tapas bars. For smaller dishes such as tapas de marisco and escalivada, head to Ironia. Bar La Tapita del PAPi is also highly recommended for delicious tapas.
Fancy trying a few different small dishes as dusk falls? Then head to the Els Magazinos street food market at Carrer del Pont 18. Here you can sample small dishes from all over the world. Fun, lively and ideal if you don’t fancy sitting down for a full meal at a table straight away.
For fish, paella and dining by the water
Dénia and fish go hand in hand. If you love really good fish, try La Xerna del Mar. Republic Dénia is also a lovely spot for fish, with a fantastic view over the harbour.
For paella, we recommend Venta La Giralda. In our opinion, they serve the best paella in Dénia. Good to know: paella is served here at lunchtime, and it’s wise to book in advance.
We also think the fish and paella at Blay Beach beach bar are good. It’s a lovely spot, with lounge sofas right on the beach. The reviews might be a bit mixed, but hey… sometimes you just have to adapt a little to the Spanish pace. Then there’s nothing to worry about.
With children or something for everyone
Not every evening needs to be a culinary challenge. Especially with children, or with a group where everyone wants something different, places with plenty of choice are ideal.
Els Magazinos is a great option, as you can try various small dishes from all over the world here. Everyone chooses something different, yet you still eat together.
Mala Vita on the pier is also a good choice if you’re looking for good value for money and dishes where almost everyone can find something they like.
And whether you’re in Spain or not… sometimes you just fancy sushi. Head to Sushiber for the best sushi in Dénia. Booking is recommended.
Cooking for yourself with fresh ingredients
Fancy cooking for yourself in the apartment? Then start at the Mercat Municipal. There you’ll find the best and freshest ingredients from the region.
That’s exactly what we love so much about staying in Dénia: eating out is fantastic, but making something yourself with fresh local produce is just as much fun. Especially when you can then enjoy a quiet meal on your own balcony or in the garden of Nido Cálido Denia.
Something a bit different: Indian/Nepalese and Italian
Although there’s plenty of Spanish and Mediterranean food to enjoy in Dénia, sometimes it’s just nice to try something different.
Do you like Indian or Nepalese food? Then Buddha Castle or Royal India comes highly recommended.
And if you fancy spending an evening feeling as though you’re in Italy, Cantina Italiana or La Vecchia Roma are lovely places, with truly fantastic Italian food and equally superb wines.
Wine bars in Dénia
Dénia also has some lovely spots for wine lovers. Andaras Ibéricos is a tavern specialising in Iberian products, wine and beer. Here, you can sample over 40 different types of wine by the glass. An added bonus: each glass comes with a matching tapas dish.
Another place we highly recommend is aDuana Wine Experience. A cosy wine bar with over 400 fantastic wines, tapas and other delicious food. We find the atmosphere inside a bit cosier than outside, and there is regular live music.
Wine tasting in the Jalón Valley
Fancy venturing out of Dénia for a change? Then a trip to Jalón, also known as Xaló, is definitely worth it. In this valley, you’ll find beautiful wineries and get to experience a different side of the Costa Blanca.
